Rainy day!

Today was a pretty rainy and chilly day. We didn't have much planned, so we ended up putting a tent up in the living room and watching a movie!

Taylor also enjoyed wrapping up in her kitty blanket, and I just thought it was cute that they kept hugging each other for pictures!

Cute kitty!

And a friend of mine made the girls some super cute hats, which they LOVE! They have been wearing them all day long, so cute...the hats and the girls if I do say so myself!

This will CRACK you up!

Literally, crack you up! So it was an exciting morning here at our house. Chris went out to check the chicken coop and found an EGG!!! Our chickens laid their first egg! He left the egg in the coop for the girls to go find when they finally woke up.

They were so excited, and here are some pictures of their first fresh farm egg!

Then as luck would have it, we carefully carried our precious egg back to the house safe and sound. Chris started to make some breakfast, eggs of course! He got out the 2 dozen eggs we had bought at the store last week, since ours weren't laying eggs yet, and here's what happened...

Yep, 2 dozen eggs knocked onto the floor! You gain one egg, you lose 2 dozen! Oh well, it made for a good laugh this morning and a trip to the store later today!

Also today we pulled out all the veggies from the garden, since we live in Maine and there is already frost on the ground by morning. NOT COOL! But, here's our loot...

Yes, that is an actual whole wheel barrow full of fresh veggies! Tomorrow we will be slicing them up and putting them in our freezer. Our new big, deep freezer, which we bought to hold the meat from the cow we bought! Before you starting freaking out, no we did not buy a cow to raise here. We bought a cow from the local farm here in town. They raise their cows completely free of hormones and all the other junk that goes into our food. They butcher it and deliver the goods to us! We've had steak the past 2 nights and it was delicious!!

After I was done working them in the garden, the girls got a special treat from Daddy. One of their favorite things to do, and again you might be a redneck if....

Your kids love to ride around the yard on the tractor for hours!

Well it was a pretty busy day on our little farm, and here's what I found just before bed time.

Little cuddle bug! And this mama is pooped too!

Good-bye little chicken!

Well it finally  happened....one of our dogs got TWO of our chickens! And, of course he couldn't get one of the annoying, crow at the crack of dawn roosters. Oh no, he got two of our egg laying hens! It was a sad day here for the girls, who are still slightly distraught over finding them in the yard! Of course things like this only happen when Daddy is traveling.....you know those things like chickens being killed, power going out in the middle of the night, then not being able to figure out how to get the hot water to turn back on the next day! The fun things only happen when Daddy is traveling! Thankfully he returned home today, so things should be nice and calm again!

The girls made cards for Daddy as they were missing him this week.

We passed some time while waiting for him to get home by decorating our little holiday tree from Grammy! It's a little white tree and Grammy sent us decorations for EVERY holiday so we can decorate the tree all year round! They put Halloween decorations on, I know it's early, but I'm a sucker for fall!

And on a side note, this is what happens when the girls go upstairs to play on their own....

That's Taylor on the recorder and Riley on the guitar! And geez, these kids never wear clothes!!

Bumps, bruises and girls feeding chickens in their underwear!

Just some random thoughts and pictures from up here in the woods!

First of all I thought it was pretty cool when we got up in the morning and headed out to feed the chickens, as the school bus was going by. I was thinking, wow if my kid's were in school our morning would have been so different, so rushed, and now I'd be all alone coming out here to take care of the animals! It was a little sad, and made me appreciate having them right here with me. And, how could I not find them absolutely adorable as they were out in the yard, running to the chickens, with no pants on...

Later that day, after we all got some pants on, we went into town to play some basketball at the school. I have been playing with the high school girls basketball team! The coach asked me to come in and help out, and it's been a lot of fun! I take the girls with me and I think they are shocked to see this old lady run up and down the court with these young girls! But, check out my nasty bruise....

Yowza!! Right on the elbow! I've never had a more sore bruise in my life!

Check out these guns

And you thought I was going to share a picture of me making muscles, huh?? No, literally check out these guns!

That is yours truly out on the range today! We went this afternoon for a little family fun time. I shot a 22 Caliber rifle, which you see above. I also shot a 357 Smith and Wesson Magnum, a 9 mm Beretta and a 40 Caliber. What a stress reliever that was! My favorite was the 22, and check out my lethal aim....

Speaking of lethal aim, check out what Taylor was doing at the range. You might be a redneck if....

Another fun family day was had by all up here in the woods!

Family Game Night!

Since Chris had a day off today we had family game night! We started instituting family game nights and family movie nights this summer and the girls love it! We started off with some Wii Smurf dance party.

Even Daddy had to do a dance...

He's so handsome!!!

Then we also had a game of Memory.

And then after all was over, but before bed, Daddy got a makeover.....

He's such a good Daddy! And he looks great in hot pink lip gloss!

Happy Birthday Blessed Mary!

Happy Birthday Blessed Mary!

We made blue cupcakes in honor of Mary's Birthday. The girls helped bake them, and light them...

And then of course eat them! Taylor ate hers in true Taylor fashion...

We are supposed to get a nasty storm today, and it started to get windy out, but before we had to head inside for the rest of the day, we got some more time out on the tire swing.

And Daddy got to do things he enjoys doing...yes that is a bow and arrow and a an ammo case in his hands!

One of the nice things about being in the country is that you can practice your bow and arrow in the backyard! The ammo case is because he's taking me shooting this week....aww, what a sweet date night! That's all for now, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

No country house is complete without.....

A TIRE SWING!!!

What a great dad to set this up, so we could enjoy one of these quickly slipping away summer days....

Even Taylor got to enjoy the new swing, and she LOVED it.

I also enjoyed my ride on the tire swing, but refused to post the picture of me on it because I realized (after looking at the picture) that sitting on the tire did not create a good angle of these thunder thighs.

Tomorrow, dentist appointments, YIPEE!

First trip to the Dentist!

First trip to the Dentist for Riley, I should say! Taylor was at the dentist a few months ago when she crashed, tooth first, into the coffee table! Today though, it was Mommy, Daddy and Riley's turn!

Riley was such a good patient! And she got a gold star bill of health from the dentist for her teeth! However, we did find out she has an extra tooth, which means an extra visit from the tooth fairy, yipee! I told the dentist she had a tooth that grew in kind of pointy, and the dentist said it was  because it was an extra one!

Today was another school day. The first week went very well, and we are on week 2 now. Today we learned the letter T. To help learn the sounds we use a shoe organizer with the letter on it, and inside the pocket we put things that start with that letter. We put in a tea bag, toothbrush, teddy bear and tomato, yes a plastic play food tomato! After that she decided that we should put Tango in there, so we tried....

He was too big!

And in case you were wondering what Taylor does during school, here you go....

She loves putting on her backpack and walking Foxy to school!
I'm looking forward to another school day tomorrow, Foxy however, is not :(

Another nice day

The girls are making funny faces with the green beans they found in the garden that actually were in the perfect shape of a mustache!

Since it was another nice day we went outside and blew some bubbles! Pefect end to summer. And who better to blow bubbles with then Man's Best Friend. More like Riley's best friend....

This is Tango in action, chasing bubbles!

He actually jumps in the air to catch them, and is the perfect bubble blowing playdate!
Here is one of him in "real" action....

Ferocious!!!

I wish I had taken a picture of our other boxer, Whiskey. Whiskey was the biggest of the litter, Tango was the runt. Whiskey is the one Chris picked because he was the biggest one of the group. Well, how do I put this nicely?? I can't, that dog is a W-I-M-P! If I had a picture to show of Whiskey from this afternoon, he would be the one cowering in the corner, running away from the bubbles! He was scared! This definately one-up's his fear of our chickens!!

It's been a great Sunday!

Last days of Summer?

I sure wish it wasn't, but the leaves are already changing and the temps are dropping up here in the woods! We had a beautiful day today, and even though all of seem to have caught a summer cold, we headed out to enjoy the sun today!

Taylor is such a little country girl! She is always munching on fruits or veggies, which couldn't make me happier! This is her sitting outside muching on this apple while big sister played on the swing set!

LOVE LOVE LOVE those chubby little baby fingers!

And this picture was just cool I thought! As I was sitting on the little trampoline, Taylor towered over me and all I could see was the big blue sky and her golden rays of hair! Love her!

We're hoping we can squeeze a few more nice days out up here, but fall is definately in the air (sigh). Oh, and Riley's cat is back to being named Christmas Socks!
