First day of PreK!

This was Riley enjoying her first day of school breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes, while opening her back to school gift basket!
These little baskets had erasers, pencils, hand sanitizers and other little things in them for their first day! Well, it wasn't Taylor's first day, but I didn't want to not include her!

Then we headed outside for her school picture, and if you can't tell, she was pretty excited about her first day.....

We are doing a homeschool cirriculum this year through Seton, and her first day went great! And, as if the first day of preschool wasn't exciting enough, we also started potty training Taylor. While I'm pretty sure she woudn't appreciate this picture, I have to share it! She is such a little country girl! While out picking corn in the garden, she let me know she had to go potty. But, she did not want to stop eating her freshly picked corn, so here's the pic....

She will hate me for it, I'm sure! But, she is right at home here in the country!

Camping, ugh!

Well I let them talk me into going camping! Not my idea of camping! My idea of camping is a nice little log cabin that has a bed, fridge, tiolet and shower, and maybe a nice breakfast in the morning...oh wait, is that camping??? Well, either way, that is NOT what we did the other day!

Shelby has been asking Daddy to take her camping, "real camping" she always says in a very sassy voice and looks at me, I have no idea why?? So, last minute Chris decided that after church on Sunday we would go camping! I tried so hard not to go, I even almost talked Taylor into staying home with me (I know, I am awful). But, she wanted to go and it seemed like too much to send my husband off with all 3 girls, and it was their first time camping, which I thought I would not want to miss. I thought wrong! I would have been fine missing it, okay maybe not. But, when it was midnight and Taylor was still jumping from sleeping bag to sleeping bag, and jumping on Daddy's head, and poking her big sisters eyes trying to wake them up, I made up my mind to take them up on that offer for a night to myself! To make it even better, Taylor then woke up at 5 am ready to play again! We all gave in and got up. By the time we got in the car to head home, which was only 10 minutes away (we do live in maine which is pretty much like camping every day, so "real camping" is within minutes), well Taylor fell asleep in those 10 minutes home, then proceeed to sleep for 4 hours!

Good thing she's so cute...

Even though I was miserable, they did have fun, and are already planning on the next trip...and Mommy is planning a good movie to get from Netflix that same night! Here are some pics from the trip!

It went well!

No pictures yet to post, but it all went well! All pets and kids came back safe and sound! This is Riley's kitty.

So far Riley's kitty has been named Princess, Hearts, Bandit, Christmas Socks and as of today Mosey! I forgot to mention before that not ALL went well at the vet today. Riley was told her cat is actually a boy! That did not go over well, lots of tears, and I'm still not 100% sure she has accepted the fact that it's a boy :(

Too bad I'm missing this one ;)

So today I am going to miss out on what I'm sure will be a very fun family adventure....and I couldn't be happier about it! Let me explain....
Since there is not much to do in our little town, I have taken on a part time job to have access to their swimming pools, an outdoor pool and an indoor one. This winter we will at least have a pool to keep us busy and burn some of that cabin fever off! So, once a month I go to work at a little resort here in town. It just so happens that this is the only weekend the "Flying Vet" will be in town. Let me explain again.....
We don't have a vet here in town, so once a month a veternarian flies into town. We are one of those towns with a little airfield, not an airport, so people can actually get to us when needed! So, one Saturday a month this man flies in, takes care of our pets between 9 and noon, then flies back out! The thing is, they take no appointments, so everyone just shows up during those hours. Not a bad deal if say, you have one dog and it's just you taking them! But, then there are familes like ours....3 daughters, 3 dogs and 3 new kittens! So, my husband will have to brave this one without me, since I have to work, awww too bad! Off he will go this morning with all 3 dogs, all 3 cats and our 3 girls packed into the car! Shelby promises to take pictures, and I will post if she does! Have a great day!

Welcome!

Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my blog! I have started this blog as a way to stay in touch with friends and family afar as we are now living in a very rural area, away from the some of the ones I care most about! This is a fun, creative way for me to stay in touch with everyone and share some of our adventures!
I thought this would be a great thing for my girls to look back on and be able to read. I hope to record most of our adventures on this blog! I chose the name Rural Blessings for this blog b/c this past year has been an awakening period for me as far as my faith and family are concerned. I feel that God brought me here on purpose....to slow down and appreciate all the blessings I have in my life! I grew up outside of a big city, and have moved into what must be one of the smallest towns in America. I can't say I came willingly, but now I would not leave willingly! God has to be drastic with me so I understand, and so He sent me to a town where there is only one grocery store, one school and no stop lights! Let me say, if your going to learn to just relax and appreciate the things that matter most, this is the place to do just that! It has been a blessing for me to go from city slicker, to country gal this past year....to raising chickens, tending my first garden, hauling firewood and now trying to convince my hubby we need a horse!I am also trying to resist the calling God keeps tugging on my heart, which is to homeschool my children. I never thought I would be consdiering this, and now even though I try to fight it, in my heart I am feeling it's the best thing to do. I don't know that I could have learned to slow down without being forced to live here, but I am forever graetful that I am learning these lessons while my girls are little!
I hope you enjoy reading along with this Crazytown adventure that is our life!
