Feeling old!

I'll start by apologizing that there are no pictures of the kiddo's, or anything else for that matter, with this post.....just me ranting a little about my old eyes!

Today was a day spent "down river" as they call it up here! Since we are sooooooo far from EVERYTHING, but especially doctor's, anytime there is an appointment it becomes an all day event....Doctor appointment, lunch, stocking up at the grocery stores for the long haul back!

To clarify, we do have a hospital in town with TWO, yes count them, TWO doctors, and an emergency room. But, for anything out of the ordinary we have to travel.

Today the girls woke up very excited to be headed "down river" to go to
Walmart! Yep, another you might be a redneck moment.....

But, first we had to stop at the eye doctor because I haven't been in two years and my contacts seemed to blurry for some reason lately. And, no it didn't cross my mind that I am getting older and it might not be my contacts that are the problem, but the fact that my eyes got worse! So today I found out that I have an astigmatism in BOTH eyes! One is bad enough that contacts can't quite correct to 20/20 anymore. Ugh...makes me feel old! I did buy more contacts because I refuse to give up on being able to wear them, but that day is surely coming.

Of course, things are never quite uneventful for us. So, we leave the eye doctor and head off to do our shopping. I had my sunglasses on. But, while shopping my wonderful hubby looks at me and asks "what's wrong with your eyes." Apparently, the doctor sent me home with my new trial pair of contacts until my "specialized" lenses come in. And it just so happens that she must have given me tinted contacts, so I now have green eyes, mixed in with my typical brown ones! The sad thing is I'm so far from the doctor that there is no way I'm going back to exchange them, so until my new ones come in I'll have to wear these green ones. And, I also need to remember to contact them on Monday and make sure they didn't order me green contacts!

So, another fun filled, never boring day around here! Maybe I'll let the hubs take a picture of my new green eyes and post it later! Maybe....

Moose, in the driveway!!

When you live up here it's not abnormal to get a phone call from your "neighbor" saying there are moose in your driveway!

These pictures are not very good, but they were taken with my phone because my camera battery was dead, and because I had no idea how to get the screen off quitely enough to not scare them away!

The girls were so excited, but they did eventaully get spooked and took off through the yard, right past our swing set, which the girls thought was even funnier, and out to the woods!

Exciting times in Maine!!

And this is what happens when you leave your phone around and your 4 year old gets it! You find this...

Such a goofball! Love her lots!!

Pool time!

Since we woke up to snow the other day, yes I said the "s" word, and then to spring like temperatures today, which were a nice suprise, we decided to go and check out the pool! The girls loved it! First we stopped to buy them some goggles.

Love those mugs!!

Taylor really liked wearing her goggles!

After awhile we headed over to the hot tub, and Riley was very relaxed and enjoyed it very much, maybe she is a bit like her mother! Here she is relaxing in the hot tub.

Happy Monday everyone!

Fall decorations!

Fall is in full swing up here! We've made 2 apple crisps and 2 loaves of banana bread, and we finally got some decorations up outside to welcome fall!

Check out that HUGE pumpkin! No, we didn't grow it in our garden, but see all those small ones on the other hay bale? Yeah, those are ours!

That big pumpkin is an example of some of the benefits of living in a small town! So, I asked a friend of mine if her parents had any hay to sale that I could use for decoration. Her dad came over that evening and dropped off these bales of hay for $2!! And on top of it, he gave us this huge pumpkin! Yes, gave it to us! The girls were so excited and they still make big, googly eyes at it every time we walk out the door or come home! They think it's the biggest pumpkin EVER!

Here it is up close! Oh, and those are my mums that haven't bloomed yet. :(

These little scarecrows were sent to us by Grammy and Poppy and the girls love playing with them!

And those decorative corn stalks are straight from our garden! It is definately feeling like fall, okay almost like winter already, but we'll enjoy our decorations before the first snow flies this winter, ugh!

Hunting, it's how we roll in Maine!

Well it was the first, or maybe not, but the first day we had a chance to go hunting since the season opened. Okay, we have never hunted before, but we thought, let's embrace the "culture" here! So early this morning my hubby headed out to check things out. Then we took the girls later this afternoon, because, as we expected, if there had been any deer or birds in the woods they for sure heard us coming MILES away! So, no we didn't get anything, but we'll keep trying!

My little hunting crew!

Following the trail to the woods, it's so funny that we literally walked out of our house and went hunting..we just followed the path to the woods right behind our house!

About 6 minutes into the hike the girls were hungry, so we stopped at a little field and had some lunch, then went on with scaring away all the animals, I mean, hunting.

And here is what Riley was most looking forward to, using her binoculars like Daddy's for work! She barely walked with out having her binoculars on, or stopping to check things out!

I love that girl! She had a blast today, but she wants to go back again with just Daddy because "Mommy and Taylor talk too much." Whatever!!

And this was the end of our walk, I mean hunt! No animals to bring home (besides these little girls), but maybe Riley and Daddy will have better luck next time!
